Meet Autumn Shead
Educator, instructional coach, host of The Jewel Guide, and founder of The Jewel Institute of Education.
Why the Institute exists
Autumn knows what it feels like when math doesn't make sense. In eighth-grade Algebra I, she struggled — until one teacher slowed down and walked her through every step. Math went from frustrating to exciting, and she never forgot how much one person who explains things clearly can change.
She became that person for her own students, spending seven years teaching high school math. Along the way she saw that it wasn't only students who needed things explained. Families were trying to make sense of policies and decisions affecting their children, and teachers needed practical support, not more noise.
Wanting to reach more people, she looked to the example set by her nana, a woman who was always out in the community helping others. Her middle name was Jewel. The Jewel Institute carries her name and her heart for service — making education easier to understand, teach, and navigate for everyone.
In her wordsFounder
Autumn Shead has spent more than 12 years in education. She taught high school math for seven years, helping students build real confidence and understanding in a subject many of them had learned to fear. Today she works as an instructional coach, supporting teachers in the classroom.
She is also the founder and chair of Ready Tutoring Inc., a Texas nonprofit working to restore, educate, advance, and develop young people of all backgrounds. She hosts The Jewel Guide, where she helps families and communities make sense of how education really works.
